Turkey, Georgia to continue working shoulder to shoulder

(MENAFN) Türkiye and Georgia have reaffirmed their commitment to working “shoulder to shoulder” in advancing regional cooperation, peace, and development, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Speaking at a joint press event alongside Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili during his official visit, Erdogan highlighted that the two nations are more than just neighbors—they are strategic allies with longstanding historical, cultural, and personal connections, supported by a robust economic relationship.

He noted that bilateral trade has surpassed 3 billion U.S. dollars in recent years, with a new target set at 5 billion dollars. Erdogan also described the 826-kilometer Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, operational since 2017, as “the backbone of the Middle Corridor” linking East and West, stressing the significance of running it at full capacity.

Kavelashvili expressed appreciation for the strategic alliance and friendship between the two countries, thanking Türkiye for its consistent support of Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial unity, and aspirations for European Union membership.
